The Holidays and Family Relationships - for fun

We need a little levity and nostalgia.
I'll post a few things I remember to get us started. They can be inside DCUM jokes or something else!

The Thanksgiving Letter

I love reading this every year. You will too. Marney forever.

I just love reading "What's Weird About Where You're Staying" and holiday vent threads of yore.

Me too! I hope we get some new laughs this year.

Of course if you don't want to be outing during your trip or fresh back from your trip... tell us what happened last year! Nobody will suspect!

Same! We are hosting this year and I always wonder what guests would say is "weird" about us/our house.

I know not everyone likes Carolyn Hax, but some of the holiday hootenanny chats are gold.

Links to most are here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/advice/2022/02/08/carolyn-hax-hootenanny-transcripts-by-year/

I think this is pretty typical but the inlaws (who are deaf) have tv or music on loudly all the time. At least it's not Fox. If they try to talk to me I pretend I can't hear them. I mime "what? it's so loud" and then try to extricate myself from the loud rooms.

We no longer travel to family (they usually come to us) but my mom used to tell us we were having a quiet Thanksgiving to visit with one another (siblings and parents all live in different states so siblings and I always wanted to spend at least some quality time together).

When we got there mom would announce all the parties we were going to and then enlist us to clean the house bc she had actually invited neighbors and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner. So basically every moment was exhausting bc we had a party or dinner every single night. Used to drive me bonkers but we always just put up with it for a few days bc if we put our foot down, we wouldn't get to see my dad.

Omg I just got tasked with sending out the list of what food people should bring. Without op I would not have remembered to specify "regulation sized casserole dishes with lids. That's lids, people, not aluminum foil."

Thank you.

lol! Great thread, OP.

I’ve never seen that Folgers commercial and I am laughing hysterically!

I think printing the Epstein emails and leaving them lying around is gonna be the hit for this year.

I can assure you we will have one guest who is between 75-80, who will show up wearing flip flops, shorts and a Hawaiian short-sleeve shirt.

We will have another guest who is around 46 or 47 who will also be wearing shorts and at some point will sneak out to take hits off his joint. He will also loudly comment on the food other people have on their plates.

We will have a third guest who is also late 40's and is lovely, but in a much lower tax bracket than everyone else, who will struggle to control her temper as the pot smoker loudly chastises her in front of everyone else for things like never traveling, not using Waymo, never getting Starbucks, etc. She will bring a very nice hostess gift, play with the kids, read to them, help with loading the dishwasher, etc. But she just doesn't spend money on herself much.

Can't wait!

At this point, I’m honestly worried about Burger King Lady. Did she pass away? Did she move?
