| I’d like to hire a lawn care company to clean up my yard (cut bushes, trim branches, put down mulch, etc..) but is it too late in the season to do that? |
| Not at all. Good time to do it now all the leaves are down. |
| You don't want to trim until trees are dormant ideally |
| Mulching now seem like a waste of money. |
| Not too late |
| Do it when annuals like day lilies turn brown so they can be cleaned up too. In Arlington ours is done late November and mid December. |
It's total post-capitalism to pay someone to remove your leaves (natural mulch) and then pay someone to put in mulch |
Can you explain why? |
| Technically you should not do any cleanup. The decaying plants have seed for winter birds. Many pollinators nest in the dead plant materials onnthe ground now. |
| Not too late at all. I know Mow Cow is still fitting people in for this. |

Thank you to everyone who replied!

It's barely even fall. Why would it be too late? |
| Pruning now is fine. You mulch in the spring. |

If you are able, have the clean up crew leave the leaves under big trees, and only cut and remove dead plant material that looks super untidy. All of those leaves and stems have next year’s generation of insects of all types, and without the insects there are no birds, bats, pollinated flowers, etc. I know it makes many people roll their eyes (I did too at one point) but we truly are getting to crisis point with insect decline and we need everyone’s yards in order to halt the decline.
Pruning can be done now, but trees and shrubs will be slightly happier if you do it in full dormancy, so in January. |
| OP remove leaves close to your house. I keep mine further away from the house but still have a serious gnat problem in summer |
