Switch 2

My 10 year old wants this for Christmas. We already have a switch. Seems crazy expensive and I don't want to encourage screens. What say DCUM?

We don't have a Switch but think we'll be getting one this year for Christmas. Should we get the Switch 2 or regular Switch? Hmmm.

Then don't get one.

We got a Switch when they first came out because there was a new Zelda game and I wanted to play Zelda. DS uses it for some games and has since we first got it.

He will be getting a Switch 2 for Christmas because there are improvements that will help with speed and run better games with better graphics and the like. We'll probably put the Switch 1 in the basement and the Switch 2 upstairs.

But we enjoy video games at our house and monitor the time that he spends on them.

Switch 2. The Switch 1 will be less expensive, but it probably won't run all the games that are going to be released in a pretty short amount of time.

If you don't care about your kid's ability to play new games in a year or so, the Switch is a good console with a solid number of great games you can play on it.

I don't think it encourages screens anymore than having the older Switch. It's not like your ten year old is going to play both, the Switch 2 will just replace the older Switch.

Nope. My kids will be 10 and not getting any switch or games. Hold back as long as possible.

A lot of friends will get them but I agree it is very expensive for a xmas gift.

I don’t think the switch is a problem from the standpoint of encouraging screens. At most it’s way down the list. The switch 2 is better than the switch, so I would go for it.

-We made the switch a family gift. Stays in the living room. Gives me more control over saying no to playing.

-I don't think you need a switch 2 if you already have a switch - unless money isn't a problem?

-If you have to pick between the two, get the switch 2. Nintendo won't make new games compatible with the original switch.

There won't be many games coming out on the switch anymore so if he wants new games they will only be available on Switch 2

I would wait as long as possible, like until the games he wants aren't available. It sounds like you are encouraging screens by getting it.

can you play the switch one games on the switch 2?

This is what we are doing. We already have a lot of screen time restrictions so the idea of giving a gift that could only be used a couple times a week felt weird. My husband likes to play and thinks the switch 2 will be better.
