How many times Cogat tested

Anonymous
Our school says 4th graders will be tested, but they were tested in 3rd grade. I thought this was a one-time test.

Anyone know if this is typical?

Forgot to add my kid was already GT identified in 2nd grade.

Isn’t Cogat just for GT identification?
The school makes it sound like they want every 4th grader to do the test again, regardless of whether they have already been identified.

My kid was never given the COGAT. I think the kids in the COVID years had some stuff skipped

Despite this, selected for CES in 4th.

That's weird. It's supposed to be just for 2nd graders. (They included 3rd graders last year as a catch-up year but that's not typical.)

Pre covid it was given to 3rd graders and 5th graders and used for CES and magnet middle placement.

Yeah but it's just for GT identification now, which is in 2nd grade. See ie here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/enriched/

CES only looks at MAP--not COGAT. COGAT is given but MCPS doesn't use it.

The testing calendar says that for 4th graders it's for "select students only"--our school did not make that distinction.

Until it’s not. They change stuff every year at this point. There’s no precedent.

Huh, I didn't notice that but you're right. I wonder who the select students are? All 4th graders should have already taken the CogAT last year, right? Maybe it's just supposed to be for kids new to MCPS?
