Looking for an online Algebra 2 class for HS credit. Ideally something that will actually teach my child math. The only program I’ve heard DCPS kids actually do is CTY. I’d like to evaluate other options, just to compare.
Any experiences? |

You should ask the high school which credits they accept.
Any reason why not CTY? Homeschool forums may have advice, too. |
| People do CTY because DCPS accepts CTY as an equivalent high school course. You'll want to make sure that the program is accepted for credit by DCPS. It's a lot of work to take a class outside of school, and then not be able to use the credit. |

This is the list we were given 3 years ago by our school's counselor as approved online high schools for DCPS:
1. Apex Learning- http://www.apexlearningvs.com/ 2. Florida Virtual School- https://www.flvs.net/Pages/default.aspx 3. Georgia Virtual School- http://www.gavirtualschool.org 4. Indiana University High School- https://iuhighschool.iu.edu/index.shtml 5. Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth- http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/index.html 6. National High School- http://www.nationalhighschool.com/ 7. National University Virtual High School- http://www.nuvhs.org/ 8. University of Missouri High School- http://mizzouk12online.missouri.edu |
| Is there official confirmation somewhere on DCPS website that they accept CTY credit? How do we go about obtaining the transfer credit? I have only ever heard this rumor here on this site. |
I would definitely talk to the individual high school before starting anything. |
Speak with the counselor at your school or email someone at central office. They do not give credit for just any summer or virtual course taken. It has to be one they approve. |

I would also tread carefully with this. Your kid will then be in Precalculus with students who all took Algebra 2 for a full year and likely have a very solid understanding of it. You may be setting them up for a really tough road.

Homeschoolers do this all the time and do great with it, unless your kid is slow they’ll be fine. |
