This is an older story from 2024, but The Atlantic did an excellent longform article on the whole story, which is frankly bonkers.
Non-paywalled link below, but basically a middle-aged married father-of-three disappeared while kayaking on a lake at night in Wisconsin. Family and LEO thought he had drowned, only to have him resurface three months later in the country of Georgia, where he had traveled to "start a new life" with a woman he met online. Quite a read: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2025/12/wisconsin-kayaker-ryan-borgwardt-death/684631/ |
| I read this a few days ago! It’s bananas! |
| Women who disappear are most likely killed by husbands. Men who disappear most likely are abandoning their families to start a new one with another woman. |
Pretty much. |
Yeah, men are the worst. I have no idea why we have let them run the world. They f everything up with their d*ck brains. |
| I guess at least he didn't k*ll all of them like Chris Watts. Both are psychopaths. |
He had his vasectomy reversed 4 months before he disappeared. He had his wife drive him to the hospital for the procedure. When he finally returned to the US to deal with the mess, he reported being angry that the vasectomy reversal fact was read aloud in court, because he worried his kids would think he was trying to replace them. Um, yeah. You were. It's hard to comprehend the motivations of someone like this with so little ability to connect actions and consequences. |
| Didn't read the article. How did he travel internationally anonymously? Didn't he use his passport? How did he get money? |

I personally knew three women who “disappeared” from their lives in the last 20 years. Two were married, one was single. One of the married ones had two children. In all three cases, they all ran away with lovers/AP’s - the woman who left her husband and kids ran off with another woman. Her husband was considered a “person of interest in her presumed death” by the township police where she lived. They were all set to charge him for weeks, it was on the news. But she got arrested for DUI in Phoenix, and the truth came out. So your little theory is complete bullsh!t. |
Because you’re too emotional to run things and you’re afraid of spiders. |
Yes, the men currently in charge of the government appear to be doing a fabulous job. Do tell us more about "running things". |
He reported his passport as lost and got a replacement, and left the original at home. Didn't bring his driver's license to the Canadian border so had to talk his way through. He used a Crypto account to send about 20K to the mistress from Kazakhstan, and left about 150K in credit card debt back home. Took about 6K in cash with him. He did take out a life insurance policy on himself before he left, to "take care of the family", although I don't know how that would have worked because usually a death certificate is required; tricky to obtain if there's no body. I don't think this was a guy who put a lot of thought into the mess he was leaving behind. |
| Just get a divorce already |
Used to be quite common for men and women to do that. More difficult these days with all the spying surveillance. |
