I looked at DD’s report card today. For one class, the gradebook lists the MP1 grade as 90 (A), but the report card lists it as 89 (B).
How could this happen? Variation in rounding rules between systems? Who at her school should she reach out to? The teacher for that class? Her counselor? |
| I'd have her clarify her grade with the teacher first, unless she already knows. My kids always knew what they were getting before report cards, but I can see that probably isn't always the case for kids. Then if there is an error, I'd suggest she go to the counselor. |
| Yikes. That’s unfortunate. I’d start with the teacher and then if it needs to be fixed, the counselor. |

Start with teacher and ask for explanation/confirmation of the grade.
When my kid was in MCPS, the gradebook tool (can't remember the name from back then) didn't consider the "category" each assignment had and the grades in the online tool weren't accurate. For example, there are 2 categories (HW @10% and summative @90%) and the HW grade has 1 assignment that was 10/10 and summative has 1 assignment that was 10/20. The 10/10 HW had the same weight as the 10/20 summative for a "final" grade would be a 67, rather than a weighted average based on 10% for HW and 90% for the summative for 55 as the final grade for the MP. |
