DH thinks portieres look tacky. I disagree. I love this look. What does the majority of the area think?

It’s the curtain behind the doorway. We do have a glass paned front door.

My all time favorite are the velvet ones:

Who cares what the internet thinks? Your husband hates it. I would not put something in my house that would irritate my husband every day.

I’ve never really seen that in person so I am going to say it looks odd.

I like it.

I wouldn’t do it for the look, but I can understand there could be a practical reason to want them (glare, privacy, darkness, etc)

I can't say I've ever seen this in real life in anyone's home.

It's a little fussy/granny to me, personally.

Not tacky, but I considered it for my front door (door has large light and transom window) and decided it looked weird and took up space.

I don't think it looks tacky, but also don't think it looks good. And from a practical view, it's going to collect dust and block natural light.

I agree with your husband.

I think most people will not care at all!

I've never seen that and think it's interesting. But I think it would be super impractical to have to open and close the curtain when accessing the door.

It also just occurred to me that it's kind of like those restaurants that have a curtain to keep out the cold air when people go in and out. Which is a weird concept for a house.

It reminds me of the curtains my grandma and dad hung in their Appalachian tar paper shack to keep the heat from the wood stove in the living room.

In other words, no.

Seems like a waste of money, unless you have an entry door that is mostly see-through glass and you need to cover it up for privacy (which renders the glass entry door pointless—if you need to cover it up then why do you have a glass entry door)

Seems like a good idea if you have an older drafty house.
