| Does your school have a dance team? Do the dancers need to be high skilled and does your child like it? My DD has her eye set on being on the HS dance team next year and wants to prepare now in case she needs to learn tricks and such. |
|
Of course they are high skilled. Most have been dancing their whole lives.
Major drama, mean girls etc. |
| The school we feed into look very amateur which was why I was asking about the skill level. |
| They need to be able to do an aerial. |
| This is going to be different at every school. Our school you don't need high skills (certainly not an aerial), but other school you might. She should reach out to the coach to ask what skills they're looking for. (I would ask about specific skills, not the fuzzier 'level') |
| Go to some events and watch. |
Not if it’s for MCPS Poms. They aren’t allowed to do those types of things. |
Depends on the school. If it’s a D1 or D2 school then they are going to be highly skilled and most have previous dance experience. And my DD’s experience has not been major drama/mean girls. |
Some high schools are skilled, some aren’t. Find out more about your school. |
She’s asking about high school. Colleges have skilled teams definitely. |
Mine is on a college D1 dance team. Also no mean girls and no drama. They do have to be highly skilled but mine never did studio dance, just HS dance. HS dance did have drama though. It was tough on the girls who were targeted. OP, people are right that it depends on the school. My DD had to learn a lot of skills in order to make the team in HS. Her HS also offered a lot of dance electives and some were invitation only based on the skill level. Other schools didn’t require the same skill level. |
HS teams are ranked D1, D2 and D3 in MCPS. |
Is this local with the HS with dance electives? I've never heard of such a thing. |
