The White House totally ignored all of the city's environmental regulations and rules (yes it is subject to them) when it took down the East Wing. Bowser decided to look the other way.

I think the destruction of the East Wing is terrible, but I also think it's nothing compared to what Trump is doing to human beings in the District of Columbia.

I think that Bowser's ability to effect change is very very limited, and that choosing other battles probably makes sense.

What do you expect Bowser to do? The federal government also impounded 1bn$ of Dc tax revenue that’s putting Dc schools into crisis. Do you think she wants to poke the bear by denying him a building permit?

Muriel Bowser is the first DC politician I'd vote to eat if we were all adrift at sea, but I don't think Trump would have listened to the city's environmental regulators if they had told him to stop.

I'm not terribly invested in this particular issue, but it's important to always push back against this administration whenever possible. Their corruption is so blatant and total.

Keep in mind DC in particular has been targeted because so many of its residents had that mindset the first time around. DC is meant to be a neutral capital.

Well, the DC government is expert in passing laws that are never enforced, so this seems fitting. Bowser and Trump share a belief that laws are really more like suggestions.

Trump ran rough shod over the Arts Commission responsible for overseeing plans for renovation. They did even have time to consider anything, the wing was already demolished. Trump has done many, many illegal things while in office. People are in triage mode. The courts are overwhelmed with cases against him. Which was the entire point of Project 2025.

Also, and I cannot emphasize this enough: Bowser needs to work with this guy until 2028, or until he pops off. She is being very careful in what she pushes back against. DC residents would NOT benefit from an all-out war with the White House.
