| Six year old is very iron deficient but not anemic. Some markers for inflammation. Tested negative for celiac. She is a good eater with a varied diet with plenty of red meat and green vegetables and not a lot of milk. She gets sick a lot. Pediatrician wants to wait and re-test in 3 months. Anyone see anything similar in their child? |
| I have been like this all my life. No one can explain why but eventually I gave up gluten and it helped a lot. Tested Negative for celiac as well. |
| Highly recommend Ella olla unflavored iron powder for supplementation |
| Hopefully takes a multi-vitamin? |
My teen would get sick all the time. She had low iron. She now takes a pill everyday and no longer gets sick. |

Does your DD have low iron, low ferritin, or both? Could you supplement with iron now and see if that helps? Very low ferritin probably needs supplementation, not just an iron rich diet.
Also ensure iron is taken with vitamin c and not at the same time as calcium. Helps with absorption. |
| With inflammation markers and gets sick a lot, has the child been seen by an immunologist? |

So there is some degree to which this controversial subject within the medical field and some disagreement on how to treat it and whether it's lasting. Hence why your doctor is looking at testing again. I do think adding a mtivitamin with iron won't hurt but more aggressive iron supplements can lead to constipation so being aggressive in treatment can have some downsides.
So try adding a basic chewable vitamin and see what happens. |
