Kenya

Hi!! I am planning a multigenerational trip to Kenya next August. I’d love to hear about places you loved or things you did that were amazing if you’ve gone. I’d also love any recommendations on lodging!

I've never been, but the Giraffe Manor is on my bucket list!

Giraffe Manor and the Sheldrick Trust are both MUST dos. The National Museum is run down and moth eaten. But the Kenyans who work there take so much pride in their heritage, for me it was definitely worth it. Get a tour of the work Karen Blixen did and if you can get a car and driver for a tour of Nairobi.

I stayed at both the JW Marriott and the Serena. I would choose the Serena if I went back.

On safari, the balloon ride is an absolute must do too.

+100 on Giraffe Manor and Sheldrick Trust. Also nearby is Kazuri Beads which is a workshop employing single mothers and they provide education to their children while they work. It's a great place to visit if you're in the area.

JW and Serena are both nice. I recently stated at the new Novotel and was pleasantly surprised and it's quite a bit more affordable.

For safari, you should be there for the migration so heading to the Mara is going to be fun but also possibly very crowded with other tourists. You can consider different parks (Amboseli perhaps?). Also if you're looking beyond safari consider Mombasa and the beach. You can take the train from Nairobi.

High adventure, mid level budget for these sorts of things

Loved Amboseli even more than the Mara if you leave Nairobi.

I am planning a multi-generational trip (6-night safari to the Rift Valley & Masai Mara) to Kenya next month. Our stay in Nairobi includes a visit to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center and Nairobi National Park. We are staying for 2 nights in OL Pejeta Conservancy, 1 night in Lake Elementiate and 3 nights in Masai Mara.

Would love to hear more about what hotels and how are you getting around?
Thank you

What do you recommend for malaria protection

New poster here

When I went several years ago, I was with a group of about 15 people. Roughly half the people in our group (myself included) took malaria pills. I got a prescription from my doctor before the trip. The other half did nothing. None of us got malaria.

We spent time in Nairobi, Lake Elementiata, Iten, the Masai Mara, and Lake Naivasha.
