Do college coaches attend state Track/XC meets?

Anonymous
DD is interested in running in college. Her times could put her in range for some D3 or slower D1 schools.

I’m sure outside the very top HS athletes it’s up to the kids to market themselves, but do college coaches ever attend the state meets?

No. They can tell all they need to know from times and video. And they have their own runners to coach.

At the VA state track meet last year there were some coaches. Mainly VA schools but they were definitely there- talking to some of the kids that had committed to their school and the rising seniors.

Track is not subjective- all about times/distance. Marketin FF yourself is more about emailing coaches with your times and expressing interest. Also have an instagram account for contact purposes

Do you really need an instagram account? What about something like runcruit or even mile split profiles?

My kid has mostly had first contact on instagram but you probably don’t need one. Just sharing real world experience

I will meet a number of them today at the VA XC state meet. My college roommate a D1 coach. The course is tough and gives a good indication of XC prowess.

I saw a few at the VHSL meet today. Would have excited more Virginia schools since there is some serious talent in the union and senior class
