Countdown to Nov 20 BOE mtg

Just watched the Kennedy HS meeting on boundary study/proposed regional model. That was heated.

Did I hear this right? The regional model will be finalized on Nov 20 at the next Board of Ed meeting.

If so, the time is now for anyone wanting to advocate about the proposed regional model.

Kinda sucky for Regions 4, 2, and 6, who get their engagement sessions with less than a week's notice.

MCPS definitely not listening to anything on that kind of timetable.

My understanding is that MCPS is aiming to make their final proposal on November 20th. Actual Board vote comes later, in January I think. So the time is now to advocate with MCPS about changes in the specifics, yes, but there will still be time after that to try to convince the Board to hit the brakes on it

Yes, Nov 20th is when the board is to vote on the CIP, not the regional proposal.

A thread for meetings isn't enough, now 'countdown' threads are needed? Is mcps this bad?

I think they said it would be finalized in November and voted in in March. So there will time between those to advocate against it, though given the rubber-stamp nature of the BOE, I am doubtful it will make a difference.

My understanding is that the regional model in its current form (6 regions defined with the 4-5 HSs) with the themes is what gets finalized in late Nov. So there won't be any more presentations about it to the BOE because it'll be done.

What happens after that is that these regions then get built into the boundary study, whatever that looks like. But they will assume that the region groupings will be true, then redraw boundaries accordingly.

If anything can change after Nov, it will be to advocate for BOE to say no to the final boundary study in the spring. But sorry, that ain't gonna happen. MCPS is backing the BOE into a corner - have to approve boundaries by next spring 2026 so that school(s) can open next fall 2027.

The regional model didn't have to be coupled with the boundary study, but that's how MCPS is forcing it in.

There are soo much details that they've been squirrely about so far that I'd be shocked they'd actually be able to fill in in 15 days. Like the number of seats per program, selection criteria, curriculum, etc. Is the BoE really going to approve this without getting any of those details?
