| The last three pairs of jeans I have bought (Mother, Paige and one from Amazon linked from an Instagram post) all have this terrible smell. It's probably the dyes or something with how the jeans are being produced, but has anyone else noticed this? All within the past 6-9 months. |
| Just noticed this as well! I just bought GAP jeans and smell was super strong in the black jeans but not the lighter wash blue jeans. |
|
I've had this a couple of times.
I'd return them. This smell never fully goes away. |
| I think I know what you mean. I find that Zara denim has a peculiar odor, especially if the denim is thin and stretchy. |
|
I have never experienced this but have not bought jeans in the last year.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to an issue at like one factory or warehouse -- my understanding is that many brands will use the same warehouses in China or elsewhere in Asia to manufacture similar goods, so that would explain why different brands have the same issue. |
| Try washing them. |
| I have had that happen. The smell never fully goes away. I would return them if you can. |
That doesn't work. I know the smell OP is talking about. I had a pair that I washed, soaked, used vinegar, sat in the sun, etc. The smell never faded enough that I couldn't smell it. Now, if I grab a pair of jeans and they have that smell, I just put them back. What's crazy is that it's sometimes just one color that has that smell. |
| Anthro is so bad about this. I return them. You can’t get it out. |
| Is it mothball smell? I hate that. Never goes away. Return. |
Look at the country they are made in and avoid clothes from that country after that. |
| Is it an almost sulphur-like smell? I’ve had that with dark dyed jeans and it never went away. It was disgusting. |
| Any 80s kids remember how Guess jeans smelled? I thought it smelled wonderful. |
|
omg i thought it was just me!
ive bought two pairs of madewell jeans in the past 6 mos. both came with this HORRIBLE smell.... washing a couple of times does take it out, but i hate washing denim more than needed. legit thought i had just gotten two bad pairs. didnt realize it was widespread |
| It’s been an issue with old navy jeans for years, if not decades. It’s the formaldehyde they use. Darker wash jeans are worse. |
