She wouldn’t stop having babies.

This is really crazy/horrifying! Legislation is so far behind the science. She’s not running a home, she’s running a kennel!

“MaryBeth Lewis had 13 kids, but she wanted more. Her desire to be a new mom again at 65 led to felony charges — and a custody battle like no other.”

This is a mental illness.

Insane men like Elon Musk get away with it because they don't have to carry the pregnancy.

13 kids used to be common enough.

So was child abuse and childhood mortality.

Surrogacy should be illegal anyway.

He also doesn't raise his own kids. This story is nuts because it's a mid-60s couple having twin babies by surrogates and expecting their older (minor) kids to raise them. These people would not be approved to adopt twins.

I don't think that the legal case against them is necessarily okay, but there is something really wrong with this situation. We need to be able to say that in society.

This is absolutely horrifying. For those who don't make it through the whole story- the babies were taken joke from the hospital by their foster parents who by all accounts are wonderful and loving parents. They are now over two and this sick woman is still trying to get custody and probably will.

Those poor poor children.

I figured someone would share this. Absolute insanity.

She forged his signature in many documents. She faked his appearance before a judge. That’s legit. What’s to stop people from making babies to just be trafficked and sold? She is horrible on so many levels and so is he.

This woman is clearly unwell. I wish the youngest twins could stay with their foster family. I also don’t understand how they can afford all of this IVF and legal expenses. Even with well paying jobs, they have a dozen kids and are not super-rich.

Bizarre story

This lady is nutso and a weird outlier in all her behavior. I hate stories like this because she is used as an example of behaviors and readers draw conclusions. She gives a bad name to surrogacy, large families, IVF patients, Catholics and older mothers. And I am/was none of those things and have no dog in the fight but for those who do, she makes them look bad, which is too bad. Her husband is terrible too. Stupid, extreme behavior is not representative of anything.

The mother's stopped giving birth in their 40s, around menopause. My great-grandmother had 16, the last at 45, not 63. There is a difference.

As a mom via IVF (in my 30s), stories like this reinforce my belief that the fertility industry needs stricter regulation. Instead we have what unbridled capitalism gets us: the ability for some people to exploit the fertility industry for human trafficking by another name.
