| How has your kid with a similar GPA fared? Kid has taken rigorous classes but it concerns me. We transferred in from a different school so started JR a little behind GPA wise. Thanks! Any insight would be greatly appreciated! |
My kid had that GPA at JR and now plays Fortnite in our basement so you’re screwed. Come on, there is so much more that goes into this than GPA; don’t believe your 10k college consultant. |
| Post this in the college forum. |
If your kid had worse grades at a harder-grading school that is known to ad coms, they will consider that if grades at JR are better. They also like kids whose grades are trending up, so that will help too. |
| Mine got into solid schools - Purdue, Pitt, Penn State, Wisconsin, Oregon, CU and more. Had a rigorous course load and good scores. |
| Kids with that GPA from J-R got to public and private schools ranked in the T50 regularly. They will be fine. |
| Thanks everyone, really appreciate the responses and reassurance! |
| No worries. UDC is fine. |
| weighted or unweighted? big difference |
| Weighted. GPA from 2 years of a different school was lower compared to other kids with similar course loads at JR. |
| 3.8 weighted? No way you get into top50 from JR with that. |
Right that’s what I’m worried about. Really aiming for schools that are top 50-75 but I’m not sure how much better that makes it. |
That means he's gotten mostly Bs, right? Post in the college board with details about what kind of school he wants (big, small, LAC, tech, etc) and you'll get ideas. He'll have options, though perhaps closer to 100 than 50. |
| Boy + grades on an upward trend + high test scores is a pretty strong hand. It will be tougher if the test scores are only mediocre. |
| I definitely know multiple JR kids with that GPA and lower that are now at schools in the range you are targeting. |
