The occasion: 60th birthday celebration for a relative on Long Island, as well as my wife (they're a month apart). We live in the DC area, and would meet in the city.
Location: Preferrably Manhattan Number in party: 8 adults Some ideas that have come back: Gramercy Tavern, COTE korean steakhouse, ROBERT, Manhatta Thanks. |
| Balthazar. Minetta Tavern. Saga. |
| peter luger if willing to do brooklyn but otherwise his former waiters have spawned a series of spinoffs that are in Manhattan. Ben and Jacks on 44th st is pretty good as is Wolfgang’s |
| I think Gramercy Tavern and Manhatta are both good options.. You could also consider The Grill or Le Bernadin. |

"A restaurant for a birthday dinner for 8 people in Manhattan" isn't much information to go on. If you're that flexible, I'd look at a guide like Eater NYC or Michelin, or ask an AI, which will pull from all those guides.
If you have more specific requirements or requests, you'll get better info posting on https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodNYC/ than here. |

| If your group likes Chinese food, there are some newish high-end options that are nicely decorated enough and have interesting enough drink menus that they might be acceptable for a birthday event; Cafe China, Blue Willow, Yao (though that's way downtown), Hutong... |
But know you need cash for Luger’s! |
Seems like others could figure it out |
| Are these foodies? Any restrictions? Steak eaters? Any particular part of town? |
Luger's is highly over-rated. Burnt, grizzly steak, mediocre atmosphere and a pain to get to. No thanks. I think the spinoffs are better. |
| My hair reeked of burnt fat after eating at Luger's. We didn't go back. |
I went once, in the 90s, and will never go back. It's old-school and not in the good way. |
lol. Yes, we get it. You didn’t like Peter Lugers. You didn’t need to post 3 times. Peter Lugers is a classic NY restaurant and one that people from out of town like to say they’ve been to. And the steak is great. As far as being a pain to get to, that’s odd considering Williamsburg, the neighborhood closest to it is incredibly hip and interesting. A great place to have a drink afterwards. But yes, if op only wants to stay in Manhattan, it’s in Brooklyn. |
| They didn't the reeks hair is me. |
