Do not make crown as a holding school

Anonymous
There is a petition of making Crown as HS instead of being a holding school going around here. Their voice is not loud, and I think it is fair to share their opinions here as another angle looking at the whole situation. It does not directly affect or concern to me, but it is a voice from another point of view especially with those families with kids living around Crown HS area. I believe it affect the most are downtown crown residents & all those houses/new houses built around it within walking distances.

Well, I would rather they make it a holding school AND drop the regional magnet idea till they actually have a plan on how everything will work with 6 magnet regions

It makes sense to be a holding school.

While I can see why Gaithersburg and QO families get pissed off of the holding school idea and why they object it, I don't understand why there's no chance for negotiation or discussion at all about the regional model idea.

I actually think it makes sense for Crown to be a holding school. There is a serious backlog of existing high schools that need repair or replacement and with Woodward reopening, we won't have another to replace it. Sorry, but I think this petition is wrongheaded, though I certainly understand the disappointment of having a brand-new school being taken off the table.

+1 I agree- making it a holding school is one of the first choices that MCPS has proposed that actually makes sense.

I note the discord that Thomas Taylor sows in our community.

This is true. He introduced 4 new boundary study options after months of gathering community feedback and then threw out this bomb about Crown and walked away from the mess .

I feel like it is a total mess and a total waste of money and resources that have been spent on all these and they twist and change all the time. It is like I am watching a drama show.

Wootton HS families have been calling out on social media to make Crown HS as a holding school for their Wootton school, so that they can have a renovated Wootton school building. I think if it comes to renovation, I believe there are other more aging high schools have been waiting in line for long time to get renovated as a priority.

Wootton, Damascus and Magruder all need serious renovations or replacements.
