Felt like it warranted its own thread.

Good. Now if they could add in also not rebuilding an aging high school and using Crown instead once it has been used as a holding school to rebuild one less than originally planned aging high schools. We do not need another high school to pay to operate during declining enrollment and it makes sense to not renovate a decrepit current high school when there is an available new school. MCPS needs to be consolidating schools and closing the most underutilized/in disrepair not expanding. The more old schools in need of massive repair that can be closed with students attending underutilized in better repair nearby schools, the better for the fiscal future of MCPS.

Use it to hold Damascus so they can be built faster than onsite, then Magruder, then move Wootton to it and use Wootton as a holding school.

Using it for holding schools make sense but our high schools are as large as some colleges. They are too big.

Well just move Wootton there, no need to renovate Wootton then

Agreed. First use it as a holding school for other schools that need the extensive renovation and then move Wootton and use Wooton as a holding school in the future if needed.

I've been posting on here for a long time about how they constantly are projecting increased enrollment in future years, but as those years come to pass, no increase is realized. But they never reflect on this, which is extremely bad because they are using these projections to allocate hundreds of millions of dollars. And they are just looking at this NOW? After all this time and money is spent? And riling up all these communities for nothing? That is RIDICULOUS.

WTF was all this boundary study for then?

So… pause the boundary study and then use the holding school. Then do a county-wide all-level boundary study

RM has 10 portables in the parking lots right now. RM was promised an expansion until Crown was approved

They had to build it as they got the land from the developer and if they didn’t do it by a specific date, they’d lose the land. Enrollment may increase with the new housing but most of it is condos and apartments and many families want houses.
