| I have heard rumors that some law enforcement agents may continue to receive pay during the shutdown, in addition to the military. I wouldn't be surprised if TSA employees are included as well. Could addressing these pain points be an effective strategy for managing a longer shutdown? |
| Yes - take pressure off by paying military and law enforcement and no one cares about the rest of us. The dems were stupid and short sighted for going down this path. |
| Yes. I work for the FBI and am glad agents are being paid but really upset and frustrated for the rest of the workforce. Exempt, excepted, essential whatever and working everyday. Way to divide the workforce and prolong shutdown. Just want this to end. There is no end in site and no one seems to be working toward a budget or solution. I am tired of being sacrificed for budget and honestly subsidies that were never meant to be permanent. This shutdown feels very different and I fear will go long term. |
No one should be paid during a shutdown, including Congress, the courts, the WH, law enforcement, the military, etc. |
| Of course. What do you think, OP? This WH has openly brayed about inflicting pain selectively on “Democrat priorities”. |
| Where is the money coming from to pay them? Agency reserves? |
This is one advantage of having a person like Trump, he usually will tell you exactly what he will do and why. Yes, a prolonged government shutdown allows the President to selectively continue preferred government operations and paychecks without a hiccup, while less desired government operations are shut down and the workers not paid. All the while, Congress further recedes into irrelevance. At some point, it truly won't matter what Congress wants to do because they will have no power except what is allowed by the executive. |
| CONGRESS should not be paid since they have failed to do their jobs. At any other company, failure to do your job to the point that the ‘company’ shuts down would result in termination. |
| Yes. It's not a real shutdown and people outside the dc area will feel it less if select payments are made and it will continue the vilification of the white collar govt worker. |
Trump’s saying from tariffs. Of course the amount actually collected is a big question mark, and using it as his Christmas fund to hand out as he sees fit is illegal, but here we are. |
| Of course it will. If no airport delays, the regular public won’t notice too much. |
The shut down is because Repukes do not want to have the Epstein files released. Full stop. Now that there are the votes to release them Johnson will never bring back THE HOUSE. |
Yep, just like he told us he had never heard of Project 2025 and now it's the playbook for his administration. What are "less desired government operations?" Let me guess, you work in a desired operation that's mission critical. |
Np, this is where it gets inconsistent, though. I did not foresee parts of agencies getting paid. How are some employees of the same agency mission-critical and being paid, while others are mission-critical and not being paid? |
Yes, that’s the whole point. Selectively paying federal employees is critically important to managing a long term shutdown. It’s also a very effective way to effectively sideline Congress. |
