My big green pumpkin

Anonymous
A few months ago, while out on a walk, I passed a woman a few blocks away who was removing part of a pumpkin vine from her yard. She offered me a part with roots, so I took it and planted it and now I have a pumpkin vine taking over my back yard. The vine has all kinds of flowers on it, but has only produced one actual pumpkin so far. It's a good size (bigger than a basketball!) and a very dark/deep green color. My question to all the pumpkin farmers out there: When might this thing turn orange? Or will it just be my big green pumpkin forever??

It might never turn orange, it just depends. Is the pumpkin in full sun? It can continue turning orange after you pick it, so watch the vine.

If you haven't already, make sure you have a barrier around it or it might turn into a deer snack.

It depends on the variety, right? Is it supposed to turn orange? Winter squash come in different colors.

Sure it's not a watermelon?
