Congratulations!
First of all, no one HAS to do a marathon. But I'm guessing that you are feeling great and happy and ready to take on your next challenge. There are a lot of plans out there. One that has really stood the test of time is Hal Higdon. Hal has beginner, intermediate, and advanced plans. I'd follow his beginner plan. The long run is the linchpin of training. Really try to stick to those. Shorter runs can be skipped (occasionally) or moved around. Most plans will have you do three runs of 20 miles during a training cycle. The year I ran my best marathon, I did one 20-miler and two 22-milers. Sounds silly, but those two extra miles seemed to help me mentally on race day. Lift weights at least once or twice a week. Eat plenty of nourishing foods. Get a lot of sleep! Happy to answer questions. |
