Hockey club team in college - A-AA level play

Anonymous
Anyone have a rec or a list of schools they recommend for boys hockey clubs in college? Unlike other sports, it appears that many of the club teams are close to a Div 1 level. Which schools have clubs that are decent, eg. (A and AA level players) - rather than all AAA. Thank you. Also, where can I find this info.?

D3 is not even close to D1 level players. There's no chance a club team is anywhere close to D3, either.

Where do they want to go to school? I know several kids playing club hockey at SEC schools like Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. It's competitive but more like AA than AAA. There are a few different club hockey leagues out there that you can try to Google.

Look here: https://www.achahockey.org/

A AA or AAA hockey player from around here can probably make many of those teams, but a A hockey player or someone who just played high school hockey would have a hard time making any of those teams. The level of play, especially at the M1 level, has improved a lot in recent years and you see a lot of kids go from playing AAA to several years of junior to ACHA once they realize they can’t make it to NCAA hockey, especially with all the Canadians that can play NCAA hockey now with new rules.

You clearly know nothing about Hockey which is very different from other college sports.

Agree. Several club teams are feeders to D1 program at the same school.

Unless it's one of the very worst NCAA D1 teams, almost no players move between ACHA D1 and NCAA D1. Players who are just below NCAA D1 level would probably play D3 somewhere, if they had any long-term hockey hopes.

You do get some reverse movement from NCAA D3 to ACHA, but not as much the other way. Huge skill gap between NCAA D1 and club, especially now that they can bring in Canadian Junior players.

You are simply wrong.

DP. You’re dreaming unless you’re talking about movement within ACHA. If the best team your kid can make this year is ACHA D1 they have almost no chance of playing NCAA D1 ever.

Many of the acha d1 players played juniors. At least the kids that get ice time. There are aa level players on the roster, but many are buried on the 4th line or don’t dress.

If your kid played aa and wants to play, look at d2. D3 for a level players.

What are you basing this off of? The difference between NCAA D1 and ACHA D1 is massive. NCAA D1 is elite talent. ACHA D1 are good hockey players, but not great and not elite.

You guys are ridiculous. The op’s kid plays either Upper A or lower level AA. Go to the acha website and check out which schools have D3 team.
