I saw somewhere that essays are not scored in the process? Is this true? If so, then what's the point??

The essays are personal statements read and evaluated for fit with the program, not “scored” for performance.

I don't understand what you are trying to ask. The committee reads the essays and decides who to admit.

You are imagining something complicated that does not exist.

They want students with demonstrated interest, and this is the part of the application that allows for that. The selection committee is expecting students to explain how their interests and activities align with the program.
