I’m looking for a calculus tutor in Rockville/Potomac/Gaithersburg. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Your kid should ask the math teacher for the tutor list. It's MCPS math teachers who tutor. You can hire an MCPS math teacher who does not teach at your school.

I would not use an MCPS tutor for Calculus. IME, the MCPS math teachers are often very bad and have a poor grasp of math. (Unsurprising, since anyone with a good grasp of math could get a better paying job than MCPS teacher.)

I would use Wyzant to find a calculus tutor in your price range. It's easy to see the ratings and backgrounds of the tutors. If one doesn't work, you can try another easily. We found a fantastic tutor who lived in Alabama, had a background in Physics and Calculus and charged an hourly fee commensurate with Alabama cost of living not DC cost of living.

Couldn’t someone with a strong knowledge of math get a better paying job than tutor charging Alabama prices? Your post makes no sense.

Funny. I was just searching on Wyzant and was having trouble making sense of all the options. If you liked your tutor, can you share their name? Many seemed to focus on college and I want to be sure that the tutor is good with HS kids. My child has always struggled with math and becomes completely overwhelmed easily.

Look on the Magruder staff roster- DK tutors.

We used MCPS teachers as tutors from Algebra thru Pre-calc. All of them were excellent and completely in tune with the curriculum (which is very important) When it came to AP Calculus we used tutors from Princeton Review. They have a sliding scale of costs, from tutors who work with you weekly for an hourly rate, up to "guaranteed score of 5" tutors who cost $$$$. The benefit of those is if your kid scores a 4 then PR pays back 25% of the fees, if the kid scores a 3 or lower, you get all your money back.

We use a different online service and no issue finding someone affordable with a math degree. It’s worked out well.
