| I am trying to get a grasp on what these 3 schools care about most or excel in. We are looking at all Sidwell, Maret and NCS in addition to some other schools. We do not have a lot exposure to these 3 schools like we do at the other schools we're applying to. I suppose I'm asking what is important or highlighted at these schools? Do they care more about sports vs the arts vs other things. Our kids are not very athletic more into leadership activities like the scouts and arts. It's an investment to apply to each school so trying to understand better which schools may be a fit if I know what they care about. |
| You need to attend open houses and events. Sidwell has a ton and Maret has a good amount too. I’m not familiar with NCS as much, but check out what offerings they have for you to tour the school and hear directly from them on what is important |
| The HOS of Maret used to work in a failed school. |
It’s been two years. Get over it. |
Just stating the difference with sidwell and NCS. |
OP, this meanness? It’s very Sidwell (I say this as a Sidwell grad) |
| Go to the open houses, get in, then decide. The real trick is getting in. Good luck with that one. |
| Visit. They are all three VERY different. You'll get a feeling if the school is a fit for your family right from the get go. |
+ 1 |
No, parent of a kid in the failed school. And I just stating a fact without judgement. |
| Ah, so projecting your questionable decision to send your kid to Whittle onto others. Makes sense. |

What’s with the constant derailing of every thread?
OP - they are all great options but quite different. I have kids at one and friends with kids at the others - all happy and thriving in their school. Attend all the open houses, take the optional interview with the admissions officers, ask to speak to parent ambassadors. You might also try to attend school events that are open to the public, such as sports events and plays and musicals to get a good picture. It takes a bit of effort to find a school that is a good fit. Finally once you have some admissions offers, your kids will have opinions after their shadow day visits as well. Good luck! |
| Very different. My daughter did not like NCS because it felt joyless and was single sex. Everyone was very nice but it felt like everyone was tired. Sidwell was opposite. Sort of intense happiness and coed. Had all the high school stuff we wanted except formal AP classes. Ruled out Maret immediately because it had a quirkier bunch of kids, felt a small (literally smaller grades), limited campus and sort of felt heavy with DEI —even more than Sidwell. And for my kid, she was tapped out on some of that. As she says “no hate but can we talk about something else for a change.” So OP you really need to visit and pursue and I think also cast a wider net. NCS and Sidwell are very hard to get into. Maret not nearly as competitive but it’s not a shoe in at all. |
So you aren’t even a part of this conversation. Get over it. Whittle failed. Move on and make a better choice next time. |
Agreed - also not a warm or nurturing HS environment in our experience there (Others will surely come here to swear they experienced the opposite and I’m glad for them. But I know from many fellow parents that we are not an outlier) . Can’t speak to other two in real life because our children were not at those schools. We never looked at NCS. I liked Maret and felt it had more balance. |
