Grade when you drop down a level in high school

Anonymous
What happens if you drop down a level in high school from a harder to easier class ( i.e. from ap to regular or a lower language level)- does the grade you earned in the harder class go with you or do you start fresh in the easier class).

Do you mean if you change now? The grade starts over in my experience. My daughter changed from honors pre-calc to on grade level last year, and her first test from the honors class was jsut erased (thank goodness).

If you wait the whole semester, the grade will remain on the transcript.

We were told at my HS that if a student changes classes, their grade does not follow them and they essentially start fresh from the date they entered the new class

Grades and credits shall be awarded according to the following guidelines:
a) If a student withdraws from a course before the end of the fifth week
(25 school days), no notation is made on the student's permanent
record or report card.
b) If the student withdraws after the end of the fifth week (25 school
days) of the course, "withdrew" or "W", the date of the withdrawal,
and the grade averaged to the time of withdrawal will be entered on
the report card and permanent record.
c) Should the student transfer to a course in the same subject area,
credit is awarded for those courses completed successfully.
