Melee at Magruder

Yesterday about 100 students fighting and school placed on hold. Anyone with details?

What?! How was this kept under wraps?

This is MCPS. MCPS will sweep anything and everything negative under the rug. Remember the Damascus rape case? The Rockville rape case? Until the media pushed for more info, MCPS did not provide any. We need the media to be on top of these stories. And I'm all for students recording these events on their phones to get the proof out there. Parents have no idea how bad things are right now in most middle/high schools around the county.

Yes, but people talk. That’s what she’s asking, How come nobody knows. Kids talk, parents talk.

Correct. I know MCPS will always do it's best to keep bad news out of the public, but a melee would most certainly have been recorded, shared and discussed among students, parents and staff. So I have a hard time believing a melee could happen at Magruder and no one would post or share about it on social media or group texts.

100 students fighting and school placed on hold?! If this happened, how do we not know more?

because we have little to none, good local journalism anymore. I miss the days of the gazette.
MoCo show and Bethesda magazine are all we have anymore

Or it didn’t happen. Plenty of trolls on here.

I don’t know why we need to know every detail of everything that happens at every school. Just because MCPS didn’t report it to the media doesn’t mean they didn’t handle it in the school.

I teach ES and my kids are students at another MCPS HS and I feel that the outrage about everything all the time just fuels hate for MCPS unnecessarily. No I don’t think they handle everything perfectly by any means, but this isn’t where your outrage should be. Do we have to complain about absolutely everything all the time?

Yeah, I don’t think it happened. Maybe it was a fight between 2 kids and got exaggerated to 100 kids.

Also, keep in mind we are talking about children for the most part, and children make mistakes. I'm not excusing fighting or poor behavior, just saying if the school handles it and no laws have been broken, it doesn't need to be reported/exploited in the news potentially risking the privacy of students at the school- involved or not involved. Imagine if every little thing at your high school was highlighted on the evening news.

If there was a "melee," which OP described, there would certainly be some violations of law as people would undoubtedly have been assaulted.
