Tj freshman - taking AP bio exam

New tj parent here. What are the pros and cons of taking the AP bio exam as a freshman. Dc likely to do engineering but still undecided on final path.

She takes the class, she takes the exam. This is September with months to go. Do well in the class and take the exam.

I understand we need to sign up now to do the exam. What happens if the AP score is not good? Can we just not report it

you don't have to report it.

OP, colleges care more about the course grade than the AP test. Just make sure your student gets good grade this year.
Usually you only report AP scores 4 and 5.

If she does well in the class (which she should), she will do fine on the exam. The AP Bio exam is not that difficult.

But to get a 4 or 5 the material needs to be fresh. That’s why OP is talking about taking it after freshman year. Taking it two or three years later is a mistake unless the child is willing to prep.

Op here. Dc is freshman and taking regular bio. Teacher asked if they were taking AP bio exam end of this year hence the question

No teacher will ask this question. Sounds more like a pushy parent.

Don’t take the AP exam while taking regular high school bio, she won’t do well because the material is not the same in depth and breath. There’s no point in self study for AP exams, her time is better spent elsewhere.

Why would the regular Bio teacher ask who is taking the AP Bio exam? It’s not the same course, and it’s not the same material.

Believe it or not, algebra teachers don’t ask who is taking AP Calculus BC.
