Would you take a job with a smaller stable company but known ceiling?

I am currently with a large org that is going through a major reorganization and layoffs are imminent. I have an opportunity with a smaller company with the plan that this would be my path for the remainder of my career (I’m 50ish). The ultimate position I would achieve would be fine but not the very top executive, as there is a succession plan I would be entering that is pretty clear (field is accounting/finance). I like the people I have met at the company and the executive team is solid and I know the senior executive pretty well. Comp would likely top out at $250-300K. The alternative is to keep looking - there is a potential opportunity at another large corporation that probably has a higher ceiling for salary but more risk of restructuring and layoffs along the way. I am not in DC, but a lower COL area of VA. Any thoughts?

Based on your current stage of life, assuming you are on track for retirement, this seems like a no brainer.

Go for the stability.

I would take the new job. You can always leave later if you want something more challenging with more growth potential
If not, having the stability is worth it.

I would be fine with it. I’m 50 and everyone can go f themselves. But it sounds like OP is still hard charging and would want more. In that situation, the answer is no.
