We all know they're just expensive backups that are no better than the better state flagships, but private school parents have convinced themselves that they're prestigious.
In US News order: WashU Emory NYU BU Wake Northeastern Tulane |
| You have issues. |
|
Maybe lose the scorn?
One of my kids is studying International Affairs at GWU. If there had been a reputable program for that at UMD, our state flagship, he'd have gone there. But he didn't get into Georgetown SAIS, and he didn't want W&M's dual degree programme with St Andrews, which offers an international affairs specialty. So he went to GWU, which offered him merit aid. He's happy there. If you can afford it, you go where your major is. |
| it’s funny because very little merit at those schools, but next rung down you start seeing significant merit - that’s really the tipping point. Richmond Bucknell Fairfield Bentley - I would say the schools you list are certainly more “prestigious” but would wager the outcomes are comparable and with merit a much better ROI |
| No one thinks BU is prestigious |
NYU has a lot of issues. Too big. No campus. Job-central. These issues make it non-elite. But it's still a great school. Agree on BU, Wake, NEU, and Tulane. |
| OP is an ignorant moron. With a few exceptions, that list is comprised of fantastic schools that are incredibly hard to get into. |
|
Poor OP, so insecure and miserable that they need to go online picking fights with people and pretending to be Ivies or bust.
Sucks to be you, I guess. |
Why? The list isn’t wrong. |
Yes, you’ve told us about your son. Again and again and again. |
The list is full of selective schools that most students wouldn't get into. So the list is great. You're not. |
They’re not fantastic. They’re just not. |
That’s wrong, but I understand your stereotype because not everyone has the same experience. |
Are you OP? Or another moron who can't understand that lots of DC area students get accepted into and attend GW? If they're into that Foreign Service major, they've probably all applied to the same schools too, because there aren't that many of them. Maybe you should stop trying to recognize people. |
Not Ivy or bust at all. Just saying that private school parents who can’t get their kids into Ivies tell themselves that these schools are great just because they’re private and expensive — but they’re not great. At all. Many state flagships are better, certainly the ones around here. |
