Thoughts on dogs in grocery stores?

Big sign that says ‘no dogs other than service dogs’. I saw a brown poodle/doodle ish dog on a leash, a Havanese in a bag, and a golden retriever.

Hate it. True service dogs aside, dogs and their hair and dander do not belong near foodstuffs (especially produce) available to the general public.

It’s not just grocery stores. People bring their dogs into post offices, school pickups and even sneak them into hotels because they’re too cheap to kennel.

I always wonder what allergic people

I have no problem with it.

Its gross and selfish unless they're really working service dogs.

It's disgusting. And I have a dog - the only store he ever went into was a Petsmart.

+1. I'd never in a million years do it because it's illegal but I've lived in countries it is allowed and never really cared unless they're poorly behaved.

Except service dogs, there is no reason to bring a dog into a grocery store. If the store does not bar dogs, I would have to decide if I want to shop there as that is the store’s decision. The problem is when, as in the Op, the store says no dogs but some dog owners bring their dogs anyway. It’s probably not worth the hassle to have to tell all these dog owners to leave Fido outside or at home.

You don't have to sneak dogs into hotels, they're often pet friendly.
Grocery stores should be off-limits, I agree

My thoughts are that people have become very weird about their dogs. It's not like they treat them as humans, they treat them better than humans. It's become creepy. Don't be these people. And they're not service dogs. You can tell the difference in the dog's behavior and the person's. Even if they don't have a visible disability. It's just their dog thst they take everywhere.

I have seen a pet pig in a shopping cart.
That is crossing the line.

If you’re dog is 110% potty trained, and otherwise trained/obedient, I don’t care.

I don’t care. I would never do it but don’t care if other people do.
