Best way to oppose authoritarianism

So it seems we are living in an authoritarian state. What is the most effective way to oppose it? All of you political scientists/history buffs, what has worked in the past? I have no confidence we will have any more free and fair elections, if we even have them going forward.

Do not comply in advance. Make the fascists expend resources to make you comply. If enough take that approach, they will run out of resources. The appeasers, which includes universities, law firms, and today, ABC, are killing us. They are allowing the fascists to pick us off one by one. Remember the saying, if we don't hang together, we will surely hang individually. The appeasers think that they are saving themselves, but they are just signaling that they are easy marks. Make the fascists fight to take our freedom. Don't just give it to them.

We are stronger together and the sooner traditional conservatives and Independents wake up to what is happening, the sooner we can end this before it gets too entrenched.

But what does this mean practically? I'm a regular ole' Mom in Chicago. What are some concrete things I can do?

Support the arts, support education, support your local library. Teach your kids critical thinking and media literacy.

With the thing fascists lack the most - a sense of humor. And that's why Kimmel is gone but we can be sure we haven't heard the last from him.

The oligarchs may control the media but they dont' control the streets. Not yet. Just keep poking them. In numbers, we can be the giant cloud of annoying mosquitoes that keep bothering them, keep mocking them, keep ridiculing them. They can swat one of us away but they can't get all of us.

I'm sorry, you are the one who lacks self-awareness. You are comparing having a post removed from a privately-owned website to government oppression. I can't fire you because i don't like what you post. I can't arbitrarily raise taxes on you depending on my mood that day. I can't arrest and deport your neighbors, including those who were here legally. Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously with this type of post?

DCUM is a privately-owned business. I have the right to decide what content I am willing to publish. If you want to say something that I won't allow here, there is nothing preventing you from saying it elsewhere. You can even set up your own forum and post whatever the hell you want. Chicago is being invaded by ICE and other federal agencies right now. We have been going through this in DC. Try to protect your neighbors who are in danger of being detained. Join the local protests. If you see someone being arrested, video it. Yell at the officers. Try to get others to help. The more that the ICE agents have to stand around listening to you yell, the less able they are to arrest others. Make them devote more resources to what they are doing.
