I am confused about people opposing ICE actions. What is the problem?

I don’t really understand why anyone would be opposed to the recent stepped-up ICE enforcement efforts. Other countries around the world enforce their immigration laws without controversy, so it’s puzzling why the U.S. should be different. To me, it seems like following the law should be something everyone can agree on.

If someone entered the US illegally, they need to go home, right? Who opposes this??

People who were brought over illegally as children are protected by DACA (Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals). People who entered illegally but who turned themselves in and applied for asylum can stay until their case is heard. Venezuelans and a few other nationalities enjoy TPS (temporary protected status)...I object to masked men kidnapping people off the streets and sending them who knows where without due process or an opportunity to contact their families. How can you support this?

It is un-American to have masked men who do not identify themselves grabbing people off the street.

It also makes it impossible to discern who has the authority to detain you and who doesn’t.

What exactly is hard to understand about this?

ICE is detaining people based solely on the color of their skin. This is unconstitutional. Period. Some of these people are even US citizens.

OP shitposting by pretending by to ask this ridiculous question with a naive tone. Do not engage.

Why cant they wear a uniform? I dont understand why that is?

OP, I'll engage because you seem sincere.

People have already referred to masks and profiling and while I agree that the methods ICE used are a huge problem I am going to talk only about POLICY differences.

For the last many many decades, right and left may have disagreed a lot but with immigration, there was a core that they agreed on.

For example:

*ICE and others avoided "sensitive locations" (schools, churches, hospitals) because there was agreement that it was important for EVERYONE to be able to access essential services without fear of arrest. No longer.

*Before, there was great bipartisan support for children's welfare. Everyone considered that children were extremely vulnerable and that all possible measures should be taken to ensure children's safety. The Trump administration has killed all of these measures. They stopped funding nonprofits like KIND that had absolute bipartisan support. They are terminating protected status for children. They are putting children, the most vulnerable, in the worst possible position.

*Before, the government would not start deportation proceedings on someone who held a legal status (TPS or asylum pending, for example) but rather wait until these were resolved one way or another. Now anyone but an American citizen is fair game, even someone ENTERING THEIR NATURALIZATION CEREMONY. And of course, American citizens are being detained, thoughe eventually released. It is shocking.

*Before there priority was to deport criminals, people with convictions. Despite their rhetoric, the Trump administration has done the opposite. They go for the easy targets: people with legal status, people lawfully attending their immigration appointments, people on their way to work, etc. These people are much easier to get a hold of than criminals, of course, and since right now the emphasis is on numbers, of course they go for them.

I could go on. But these among other shifts are absolutely shocking.

Deporting lawbreakers sounds rational, but they’re cancelling TPS and asking immigration cases be dismissed so they can arrest and eventually deport people. These are people who were following the law.

Why do you still believe it’s about law breakers?

They are wearing masks and not showing identification. This is not legal. Op, what if someone in a cop uniform and a mask grabbed you and threw you in the back of a van. This is what’s happening all over the country.

There is no due process. Everyone in this country is supposed to get due process. It is not just for US citizens. Even the most heinous criminals, murderers and rapists, het due process.

Trump yammered on and on about how our streets are full of illegals who are drug dealers and rapists. But then he goes after people at work, their asylum hearings, their kids’ events. If there are really illegal rapists and drug dealers on every corner, why isn’t he focusing on them?

I could go on and on, but these are the things that bother me the most.

You are so stupid OP

No decent countries don't have unidentified masked people snatching anyone off the streets. There are enough videos to show the problem

And use actual law enforcement. Not these shadow law enforcement with the group that has the LEAST oversight and MOST vague powers off all law enforcement.

But disingenuous OP, you know why they decided to go with ICE and not police. Doing things the American way was not in their plans.

Secret police, who kidnap people off the streets, without identifying themselves, showing a warrant or legitimate cause, not following due process, etc? Stalin and Beria did this in the Soviet Union, as have many other authoritarian regimes. And we now do this in the US as well. Question answered, OP.

Agree 100%.

The opposition to ICE is ridiculous.
