MCPS- what is up? Tell us the National
Merit Semi-Finalists, per school, please. |
The have posted that they know the names. But they aren’t saying who they are. Or am I missing something? https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/news/mcps-news/2025/09/national-merit-scholarships-semifinalists-2026/ |
Why? Why does it matter so much to you? |
Because op’s kid might be a winner. Are you dumb or something? |
Meanwhile Fairfax County already issued a press release trumpeting its huge number of NMSFs.

They are a better run school district than MCPS. |
If that's the case then I pity those in MCPS. Don't confuse taking credit for the achievements of its students with a well run school district. FCPS is a mess under Michelle Reid. |
Or if you aren’t going to publish the names at least tell the kids themselves. This feels crazy! |
There are a bunch of stories from various districts about the winners in their districts. So MCPS must have the names... |
Howard and Harford have released lists. Come on MCPS. We know about your incompetence, but please surprise us once in a while. |
This is so MCPS. |
Email the askmcps@mcpsmd.org address and ask for the list to be released. |
You can know if your kid is a NMSF from their index score- 224 is the number. BUT, it would be nice if MCPS releases the list (with or without names) from each school. |
Here's last a press release about 2024, but maybe it didn't come from MCPS? It includes both MCPS HS and independent schools...

Here is something, but it's super-vague. Why say "more than 100" rather than using the precise number.
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/news/mcps-news/2025/09/national-merit-scholarships-semifinalists-2026/ More than 100 MCPS students were nominated as semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship program. They will compete nationally for scholarships announced in the spring. The MCPS semifinalists come from 12 high schools: Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Montgomery Blair, Winston Churchill, Northwest, Poolesville, Richard Montgomery, Sherwood, Springbrook, Wheaton, Walt Whitman and Thomas S. Wootton. Semifinalists from MCPS were selected from among high school juniors who were top scorers on the 2024 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. About 15,000 semifinalists across the nation are expected to advance to the finalist stage of the competition. Finalists will be considered for $2,500 National Merit scholarships, plus additional corporate-sponsored and college/university-sponsored scholarships that will be announced later in the school year. |
