Picking the DCUM hive brain since I get good advice on this forum.
Is there a way that I can donate money to pay off some unpaid student lunch accounts in MCPS. I want to commemorate a significant event in my life and I would like to use that money to help people. Where can I pay off these accounts (maybe only one school)? What is the process? Is this a good idea? How do I ensure that the money will not be used for something else? Who do I contact? I want to donate anonymously, but I want to full amount to go towards paying off these lunch accounts. |
| Reach out to the school counselor. |

Is there no established pathways for donation for meals from people outside the school community?
If I am successfully able to donate for unpaid meals directly in the school closest to me, I will be able to mobilize many people in my circle to do the same. OR If I am able to donate in the school to prepay for accounts that may fall into a negative balance for meals that would help too. I just want to be careful that it goes for meals and meals alone. And it goes to student who cannot afford these meals or are not getting free meals already. |
Cannot help. |

Anyone? Anyone from the Board of Education? Any MCPS teacher or administrator?
I know y'all lurk on here. |

The good news is that MCPS does not allow kids to be refused meals, or receive an "alternative" lunch if they are in debt, and the school is good about working with families to get them on FARMS.
However, these donations do help because the families will stop getting notices about debts. |
OK. Don't want to pay to MCPS foundation. Want to directly pay to the school. Want all money to be used in the school of our choice that has the need. I am not going to pay for a W school because the non-payment is probably due to parents forgetting about putting money in. |
Everyone knows what the "alternative lunch" is. They know who does not have the money to pay. |

Can someone explain this spreadsheet to me? What does it mean? What is being covered by the foundation and what do the students actually owe?

The only suggestion I have is to ask MCPS food services: DFNSHelpDesk@mcpsmd.org, 240-740-7400 https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/directory/directory_Boxoffice.aspx?processlevel=40810 |

Sorry, the foundation seems very shady. The way money is being distributed seems shady. BCC HS is that poor? But Kennedy HS is all paid up?
Please, I only want to pay for families and students that cannot afford to pay for lunch, even with reduced prices. I don't want to pay for families who can afford to pay but did not remember to pay. |
OK. Thank you. This is helpful. I will try there. |
Kennedy is a CEP (free lunch for everyone) school. BCC is like 1/4 FARMS kids. Not that complicated. |
