How much does tuition go up per year?

Anonymous
There seems to have been a big percentage bump this year, maybe due to economic uncertainty. We were told to expect 3-5% increase every year.

5% is typical but I’ve seen comments occasionally in past years about as much as 7%.

Until they have a funding shortage, when tuition can go up 15 percent. Very common every few years.

Tuition at our school has gone up 0 to 3.5% each year since we’ve been there, but I’m just reading in the news about health insurance premiums skyrocketing in January, which will elevate the cost of staff compensation. So I’m already preparing myself for a substantial tuition increase next year.

It's goes up around $1500/year at the $55k schools.

Very grateful to be in our last 3 years of tuition after having 3 kids in high school at one of these schools. I think we'll probably see $60K before we leave and this is insane.

We have been at Stone Ridge for 10 years and I’ve been tracking this, the range has been 2% to 9% with an average around 5%.

This matches our experience over 14 years. But I'd say it is most often in 4-5.5% range with a couple of larger bumps in either direction (0-2% and 6-7%) - and probably only once in that high range and maybe twice in the lower one.

That’s about 5% a year. Normal.

20+ years ago, when I was applying to DC independent schools, the Sidwell kids had done a project where they projected what tuition rates would be for their kids. Tuition was around $19-20k at that time and it projected we would have to pay around $80k for our kids.
Well, fast forward 26 years, and my kid just started 3rd at a $59k school and once we are done putting 2 kids through 10 years of this, I'm pretty sure we will be at $80k each.

When my son started, tuition was 24K. The yr he graduated, it was announced that tuition would be 31,360K for 25/26. Lunch, books and sports fees are not included - and a garage spot is 1,200.
