if your teenager was driving with his friends in your silver or gray BMW

Anonymous
he might have been the one who almost killed my husband and daughter. This was around 7:30 this evening.

The driver of this car - it's a silver or gray BMW, possibly regular probably M3 - deliberately blew through two red lights (Holton Arms school and 495 SB exit to River Road west) on River Road westbound in Bethesda. It's a Maryland plate starting with 1F (withholding the rest on this site). If this sounds like your car, you probably need to know that your kid is driving like a maniac, and could easily kill someone. My husband reported the incident with plate details to the police. I'm sure your son will suffer no consequences, but I hope that you and and your family will be able to live with yourselves if he ever does seriously harm or kill someone due to his dangerous driving.

The sad thing is, it's likely the kid's car, not the parents'.

Good post OP.

Good for you for calling the police! So glad you got the plate number and of course that your family is safe.

OP, I don't know why so many parents trust their teens with driving. I always assume the worst, of course they don't know what I'm thinking.

A BMW is a car that just encourages maniac driving, so I would never let a teenager get behind the wheel of one. Great post, OP, and sorry your husband and daughter had such a scare.

Yep, my parents gave me an ancient bright yellow VW when I was a teen. They said that I couldn't go fast enough to do real damage, and that no one would be able to say they didn't see me!

OP, I hope the parents of this idiot see this post. I'm glad your family is safe.

Let's keep this bumped up.

OP,
Good for your husband for reporting this. Please keep us posted. I know that stretch. Yikes.

P.S. One quibble: No consequences? Let's not judge the driver's parents' parenting based on their child's behavior. I know several very affluent families, and they are damn strict and would not tolerate this.

Nice! I like this idea.

I had a 3 cyl Geo Metro for that reason.

The majority of parents on this site are parents of young kids. But if you reported it the police should be contacting this family - so glad you reported it!

You might want to post this on the Older Kids forum.

Good for you, OP.

Someone on my neighborhood listserv posted something similar (different car/driver/neighborhood), if you know someone who has access to the Bethesda listserv, you might also want to post there.

This child driver is endangering the lives of others, himself, and his passengers.

I remember a friend of mine in HS. Her parents bought her a BMW, and she crashed a month later. Then they bought her a Volvo. SHe crashed it. Then they bought her a convertible Toyta Celica. Crashed it, too. Sadly, some people never learn.

A girl from college went home to Florida for the weekend and crashed her Porche. She killed herself and her passenger.
