Spider mites on my enormous, beautiful fig tree

Anonymous
I have a huge fig tree in my backyard. Every year it produces hundreds of figs. Right now, every time I go out to grab ripe figs off of it, I also notice ~5 leaves or so that appear to have spider mites. I have been removing those leaves immediately, and hosing all the leaves off on the rest of the tree, but they still seem to appear.

So my q's are twofold:

1) What should I be doing? Wiping down every leave seems impossible, this tree is quite literally 10x my size, but if that's what I have to do I guess I will.

2) What is the risk of long term damage? Will this just cause the tree to lose some leaves now, but grow back fine next year? Or am I at risk of permanent damage to the tree? Just trying to gauge how big of an emergency this is.

Thank you!!
