My kid’s English teacher marked them absent second period, but they weren’t really absent. How do I fix this? Do I email the attendance secretary?
Thanks! |
| email the teacher and attendence secretary but I've never had help fixing it so I don't bother now. |
| your kid needs to handle it first |
This. This happened to my son last year. He emailed the teacher and said something along the lines of "hi Mrs X. I noticed I was marked absent in class yesterday. I was there. I sat in the back next to Morgan.". Teacher emailed back basically saying maybe they missed him or didn't hear him or just marked it wrong but it was fixed. I'm sure a one time thing, they don't put up a fight. If the kid tries to use the "you marked me absent by mistake" repeatedly, I'm sure it would be a different story. But this is a perfect thing for your kid to handle on his own and if it doesn't get resolved, then you can step in. |
This. Your kid needs to talk to the teacher. If the teacher doesn’t fix it I don’t bother to fight it. |
| If your child needs help (mine certainly did), sit down with them and help them write a polite email to the teacher. You should not handle this for your child at this stage- but helping is appropriate. |

I've stopped trying to fix attendance mistakes.
Unless MCPS has also changes its attendance policy. They changed a bunch of things this year. Haven't bothered to check. |
It’s not just following an attendance policy, it’s also safety. If there was a real emergency my kid would have been overlooked because they were marked absent. |
In a real emergency high schoolers just walk away from campus and the procedures are meaningless. |
I stopped too. It does not matter. I once even got a letter from mcps that my child was in danger of failing due to absences (which were ap exams, a field trip, a track meet). School told me to ignore. Also when I would call about an illness , they never took down any info. I stopped calling |
