Einstein loses another AP

Einstein loses another AP to be a MS principal. What’s going on? We are a new family and these departures support my first impressions of the principal being mediocre at best.

We have a junior at Einstein - I think high school is the happiest we've been with an MCPS school, honestly. Have not interacted much with admin but teachers have been good and in some cases great.

Yes, another rising junior and we've been very happy with the school. Just because an AP leaves to be a principal somewhere doesn't mean he didn't like working at Einstein.

I have a junior at Einstein as well. He’s very happy there. I have never needed to interact with the principals to really form an opinion on them. Teachers and extracurriculars have been great which is what matters to my kid.

I think your concerns are misplaced. Yes, it's unfortunate, but not that unusual, to have two APs turn over in one summer. But Mr. Krop was the principal intern last year and was mentored by Mr. Brown, and it's impressive for him to be appointed to a principal position immediately afterwards. That does not always happen.

The AP was in a principal training program last year, so it makes sense he'd want to take a principal job. Not sure why it happened right before school starts, though.

Because Key MS's former principal was recently promoted to a director in central office, so the position didn't become available until mid-summer.

He was a principal in training and looking for a principal. He was the best ap of them all and really good and responsive. The school ran much better when he was principal intern. Kids respected him. It’s a huge loss. Wish him the best.

I wish our ap would leave too. Terrible.

There are more principal openings than interested applicants so I’m not surprised he got the position. Does he even have any middle school teaching experience?

Not true, especially at the middle school level, there have been relatively few this year.

Sometimes I wonder if the folks making these posts have ever had jobs. It might be alarming if multiple assistant principals were leaving to take other assistant principal jobs, but having folks under the current principal be promoted is actually a sign of strength.

A good leader empowers the people under them, and creates opportunities for them to move upward and onward.

It is indeed a case of the Einstein principal being terrible. Brown is really really bad. I’m glad you have never had to deal with him as a parent, but I guarantee you that staff at Einstein is unhappy. He’s an idiot.

-Former Blake teacher who had him as an AP

I did not want to be that blunt but agree. He doesn’t support his staff and is scared of the kids and wants to be their friend vs authority figure.

My kids liked and respected him and thought the school ran much better when he was in charge. Hopefully he’ll be a great principal.
