| At BCC. It's the English summer assignment, that is also, apparently, the first part of a larger project that 10th graders need to complete? Is it going to be integrated into the English grade? My daughter has no interest in doing the IB program later. DD is wondering how complex it has to be. |
| Completing this is optional. Neither of my kids did it. |
Really? Last year, for 9th grade, all the BCC summer assignments were graded. |
DP. Graded like HW, not like tests. |
| Completing the full project is optional. The summer homework should be done. |
| OP here. Thanks! |
Yeah most kids are doing the English reading or projects until the start of school, if at all. Frankly, summer assignments need to stop. |
| DP here re: BCC MYP assignment - is the intent that the MYP project be done during the year in the English class? I'm having trouble seeing how this project relates to an English curriculum. Does everyone actually do the MYP project overall during the year? What is the incentive to do it, if it is not required? |
| It is not part of the English class. They will be assigned an advisor who they meet with periodically to discuss. If they complete the project it will show on their transcript and they can write about it in their college applications. |
Thanks for this. When do they meet with the advisor? And if they don't finish the project, then it's ok? I gather this ends up just being another way for kids to have a structured way to do a big activity that they can use for college. |

It is fine of they don’t do it at all. It’s also fine to start it and decide they don’t want to finish it. I have high achieving kids and both started but then decided it wasn’t worth finishing.
The coordinator will reach out to the kids to notify them of the process and will host a parent meeting to discuss it early in the school year. |
thanks. This is really helpful. |
| Does anyone have a description of the full MYP assignment? |
