Apps You Need to Help Your Child Succeed in MCPS

Let's crowdsource a list of the apps that are the most useful and necessary and what they do

1) ParentVue - This app connects Parents to the grading system so you can monitor your child's grades and progress. You can also use this to contact teachers.
2) Remind - This will be replaced by ParentSquare at some point, but a handy app to manage how you receive messages from MCPS and to see archived messages
3) ParentSquare - the new app that will replace Remind - some schools have fully transitioned to it and others haven't.
4) MySchoolBucks Parent - Manage lunch money

I have StudentVue and Canvas Student on my phone but don't use them.

I also have Canvas Parent but am not sure why.

What other student/resource specific apps are useful for MCPS parents?

SchoolCashOnline to pay for fees, field trips and other school obligations. But that's really just a website, not an app.

GoFan. This is used mainly to buy tickets/season passes for athletics, but some school have used it as a platform to buy Prom or Homecoming tickets too.

MCPS Stronger Student has resources for mental health and how to file complaints around bullying, etc.

1) ParentVue - Grades, Standard test scores, class schedule, contact info, etc
2) Remind/Parent Square - Messages from teachers/school/district
3) MySchool Buck - Lunch Account
4) School Cash Online - Any other payments to school/district (rarely used)
5) Join your school's PTA communication tool (Remind, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc)

If you want to see specific work or announcements access Canvas through ParentVue online OR use Canvas Student. There is too many outside connectors or tools used and privacy settings that don't make Canvas Parent setup worthwhile.

Go in online at the beginning of the year and setup your thresholds for notifications. Like notify me when the lunch account only has $10 remaining. Or notify me when kids grade drop to 85 or below.

Band for certain sports. Ebrite for some tickets that aren’t sold in Go Fan.

Sign up for MCPS Alerts and then actively manage what info you get to what device (text, email, etc). Don’t complain later on that you get too many alerts for the same topic to both text and email - you control that.

Is Canvas where you have to do the volunteer training?

When I go to ParentVue and click on Canvas, I am told I am not logged into Synergy and can't see anything.

I've given up trying. I just look at the grades on ParentVue. DD has good grades anyway. She's in high school. Just a few more years to go.

Canvas works if you start from the ParentVue website.
