AP Physics C: is it both Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism?

My kid’s counselor is telling her that AP Physics C will be just Mechanics. I thought it was one semester of Mech and one of E&M?

I'm impressed your school has it. Ours doesn't have any AP science.

It depends on the school and how they choose to run it. This also depends on other factors such as general level of Calculus readiness in the student population and science sequencing in the school. Some schools run single period Mech only, some double period Mech & E&M, and some single period Mech & E&M.

It's two separate tests, so schools can choose what they prepare students for.

I've been looking at placement/credit policies of a number of top X schools. Most seem happy to let students place out of mechanics with a 4 or 5, but seem to discourage placing out of E&M, regardless of AP score.

Which schools run single-period Mechanics & E&M?

What school?

Did your kid take Honors or AP 1 Physics first?

RM has single period Mech & E&M as a first time physics course. 2 sections of it. Kids are either concurrent AP Calc BC or MVC.

Which schools run single-period Mechanics & E&M?

Which school has no AP Science?

WJ does it as one period mechanics and the e&m is a separate class on period. I guess if you wanted to do both you could just take both classes in one year and effectively make a double period class. My kid is doing one junior year and one senior year.

This is a terrible idea and the number prove it:

RM has a 60% pass rate for E&M, vs 72% national average.

But RM has a 81% pass rate for mech, vs 72% national average
