Broken links on MCPS pages

Anonymous
Why are so many links on MCPs' website broken? When you try to ask school, they don't respond or don't know yet don't say they don't know instead give outdated info. When you finally get someone to answer, their answer is different than someone else's within MCPs. Whatdya do?

They don’t have a large enough budget to address broken links.

Ha! Ha! They’ll NEVER have “enough” cash!

I think part of the issues is lack of follow-through on existing initiatives.

MCPS is big on *starting* new initiatives, sometimes around data collection, which leads to creation of new websites/links. However, because there is no culture of accountability in MCPS, those initiatives just peter out and are never taken down or updated.

I've thought a lot about this vis-a-vis MCPS senior Central Office salaries. Yes, they make a lot because they are expected to run a massive organization, but they are not apparently expected to do it WELL.

In the private (or even nonprofit) sector, there is generally some accountability. If you say you are going to start an initiative to show the number of students per classroom in real time, you either do the thing you said you would do, or you sunset the program with an explanation of why.

But, if that culture ever existed, it evaporated under McKnight. So we're left with all of this damage, including half-started promises, which has damaged parent trust in the system and led to all of these links to nowhere.

Which links or which sites are you referring to?

Do you think anyone is going to tell you each and every link? Look into it yourself. Someone gave an example upthread you can start there. If enough people have experienced broken links, mcps should be removing links and/or outdated info that doesn't have a link from their website.

I think if OP provided some examples, people could help find the information.

The second post this thread didn't provide a broken link.
