Question about SSL hours for private MS kid

Anonymous
My kid is going into 8th at a K-8 that doesnt input SSL hours. She will be going into MCPS for HS
She has earned SSL hours thru a monthly food pantry, is going to Mississippi this week to help with a housing project and had hours from service camps she’s done.
Can they be input into the SSL system when she starts HS? Or do they not count.
I know she only needs 40 instead of 75 buf just wondering if they take backdated hours as a new student when she starts.
Thanks

Isn't the point of the reduced hours because what she did in MS won't count?

Maybe the summer after 8th but not this summer.

LOL. That sounds extreme. Is she building a house? Sounds like "trying too hard" approach

Yeah because community service and helping those in need is clearly something that means you're a try hard.

No, don't get me wrong. I think that's great. My kid had more than 1000 hours of SSL by the time they graduated in HS. My point is community service can be done anywhere. You know like in your community.

Seven years ago our HS accepted old forms for my kid in your student's position, but two years ago, for my younger kid, they did not. You can ask the SSL coordinator at your school but I think you will probably be out of luck. Be grateful for the prorated 40 hours, which is definitely a help (although both my kids went on to earn more than they needed for graduation).

Going to speculate here but most of the K-8 private options here in the county are church affiliated. This trip sounds like it might be church sponsored service work which often times does take people well outside of the communty

Why not? My kid started earning SSL hours the summer before 6th. -NP

OP, the nonprofits would have to be registered with the MCPS SSL program, which requires some training on their part. I doubt the MS program would count. And even those in MoCo don’t count if the org has not done the training and registered.

She does 4 hours a month with our church food pantry. It’s not part of the service thoigh and not religious in nature so does count.
She’s usually hauling heavy food bags around, last month she was carrying watermelons to peoples cars for 2 hours straight.
The Mississippi thing is not through our Church but a different service group. She’s gonna be helping rebuild steps on someone’s house, and help at a day center tbat provides, meals, food, laundry services etc. if might not count if not in MD, I have no idea, maybe it doesn’t. She’s not doing it for the hours I just thought it might be a bonus.
We try and help others in general. We also like traveling and seeing different parts of the country.
