Furman but easier admit

Anonymous
So, it seems our son really really likes Furman. He is probably a bubble kid. Could go either way. For those of you that haven’t seen it the campus is great. Has a lake and a golf course. A lot of new buildings and doesn’t appear like a small liberal arts college. Furman is a bigger liberal arts college and has 2500 students. By comparison Wofford feels much smaller.

Any thoughts on a college like Furman that is easier to get into?

Maybe Sewanee--The University of the South ?

Mercer University in Macon, Georgia ?

Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida ?

Berry College in Georgia and Rollins College in Florida.

Florida Southern College.

Appalachian State in NC.

SMU in Dallas, Texas.

Mine also loved Furman, but it wasn't their best option for their major so didn't commit. If it helps, 3.3uw, 3.7w, 33act, great EC's and essays from rigorous private. They got a great merit award, apply early and give it a shot.

^ Adding, mine thought Wofford was too small. I told them they are pretty close in size, but the campus felt a lot smaller to them. I wasn't on that tour. They really liked mid-size or the larger side of small schools. They also loved Elon and Dickinson if it helps.

Are you full pay? Their ED acceptance rate is 90%, there should be no reason your child isnt accepted if they meet like the 25th percentile and you ED.

But if you ED you lose out on their generous merit aid.

About to lose their accreditation and their president’s son is a murderer. Why do people recommend this school?

Our college counselor recommended Furman as a Target for DS. He is also applying to Rollins and Sewannee, which we were told were targets. We were advised that Elon and Woofard would be reaches. I think your school’s relationships with these schools is also a big factor, as our school seems to have strong success getting kids into the three schools I mentioned that are targets but doesn’t send many to the two deemed reaches.

DS will be kid number two in college. We are counting in some “discount” because of that.

Elon and Rollins would be great. But would be too much based on the NPC. Thought about Berry and Sewanee. Saw Dickinson and Carlisle isn’t close to Greenville. Much smaller and a little tired. Lancaster is a better town but Franklin and Marshall is a tough admit.

You mean the decedent who took so many drugs on his own volition that he killed himself, having nothing whatsoever to do with the president?
