Call me crazy, but I think Trump is partly to blame for what happened at the WNBA game

Anonymous
I saw the news about the man who threw a sex toy into the crowd at a WNBA game, and honestly, it’s been stuck in my head all day. I know it sounds ridiculous, but there’s something about it that feels familiar in a depressing way.

People are brushing it off as just some immature stunt, but I think it’s bigger than that. The whole vibe of it—the need to disrupt, to make everything a spectacle, especially in a space meant to celebrate women—feels like part of the ripple effect we’ve been living in since Trump. Before 2016, I don’t think this kind of thing would have been so normalized or laughed off.

It’s not that Trump caused this directly. But I do think the erosion of basic respect, especially toward women and public institutions, really accelerated during his time. Everything became a joke or a stunt or a “gotcha” moment. And now someone’s throwing dildos into WNBA crowds because they saw it trending on TikTok?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it. I just think the timing and the culture this kind of behavior thrives in didn’t come out of nowhere.

Anyone else feel like this is part of something bigger?

I don't think so. People used to jump into games -- mens games -- buck naked and run around. "Streaking." Nothing new.

with Caitlin Clark injured and not playing, the WNBA needs this to be happening.

The MAGA movement is really tied in to the 4chan/8chan misogynist trolling culture. It's not so much that Trump caused it as that he benefits from it, celebrates it, and furthers it.

Honestly at this point, I’d support the WNBA requiring digital check-in and a sex toy amnesty box at the door. People laughed at TSA scanners too, and now we all just take our shoes off and move on.

Not Trump, just cheep antics from the crowd. If you think this is connected to who sits in the White House, you must think they control the wind too.

Once the media picks up on an antic like this and spreads the story, (any dildo story will produce lots of online click-bait) then it will often be repeated. Wouldn't matter if Kamala was in office instead.

That is a take from someone who knows no history, has not really been out in the world, and is obsessed with Trump. Really bad take, OP. I hope you don't utter these things out in the world.

Actually it was crypto bros tossing green dildos to promote a meme coin.

We live in such a stupid world.

Yeah, I think you are CRAZY.

You are right. You are crazy to blame this on Trump.

Well his son posted a meme of Trump tossing a green dildo so I agree with OP. Crass misogyny

Yes I think it's part of something bigger. But I think Trump is another symptom, not the source. He didn't create this resurgence in misogyny and, I don't know how to describe it, but scary and aggressive behavior by some men to reassert dominance over women. He exploited it and he eggs it on, but he didn't create it.

It is a scary time.

I think it started as a stupid prank and once people saw how triggering it was it incentivizes copycats. Truthfully, the best way to make it stop would be to just ignore and downplay it rather than making a federal case about it, e.g., “look throwing things on the court is dangerous and it needs to stop; also this is a family sport and we don’t think its fair to the little kids to have to see dildos every night.” And when one flies down from the stands just have the ref pick it up and move on with minimal fanfare. They are doing it for attention, just stop feeding the trolls and after a while it will stop.
