ACT Science Yay or Nay

With the new changes to the ACT, are kids still taking the now optional science section? My child will take the ACT in Sept and is curious how much it matters? It doesn't appear that schools care but curious if that's an accurate statement and what folks have been hearing and advised to do. Thanks

This varies by school- you have to check based on where he plans to apply

Some schools will only accept scores with writing, presumably to be able to compare scores among applicants and possibly compare to their past data sets.

I meant "with science". Sorry, need more coffee this morning.

Yay

Many universities are requiring it.

If you are intending to major in STEM- definitely include it.

More is always better. Science is basically another reading comprehension section.

Yep.

It’s not quizzing on science facts; you’re reading text & charts/graphs & answering questions

More is not always better. No one cares about the optional ACT writing, for example.

Check with colleges, but historically, portions of tests that become optional generally don't survive in the admissions ecosystem. People move on. So maybe in the year immediately following a demotion, that part of the test might still be welcomed by admissions officers. But it won't be for long.

Not sure that it's actually more, but works better for colleges comparing to historical data.
